Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! My name is Coach Sammi (Samantha Stewart), and I will be your student’s Adapted PE (APE) teacher this school year. This year is going to be very different from our previous years due to COVID, but, I'm hopeful that we will do great and improve our gross motor skills and fitness. I’m excited to see returning faces and some new faces. I wanted to send a note home, introducing myself, and I look forward to meeting everyone.
As an APE itinerant teacher, I typically travel and teach at Newbury Park High School, Sequoia Middle School, and Westlake High School most days. Currently, I am providing virtual live APE sessions to my students at these three schools. I also provide services to students at Banyan and Walnut Elementary Schools when warranted. This will be my forth year here at Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) as an APE Teacher, and 14th year as an educator. I have taught for the Ventura USD, Santa Barbara USD, and Simi Valley USD before coming to Conejo Valley USD. Previously, I taught in Arizona before moving here due to my husband’s military orders. I truly enjoy teaching for CVUSD!
A little about myself: I hold credentials in PE, Health, and APE along with a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration. But, my biggest source of knowledge and experience is from my children. I have a son, Gavynn who is 21 years old with an Intellectual Disability, Autism and ADHD, and two daughters, Kyra who is 15 who attends NP and plays water polo and Natalie who is 11 who at Banyan and loves playing soccer and running. These three keep me on my toes. Our family is invested in Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, and sports. We are always moving and volunteering. We advocate at home, in the community, and at school. We love getting out there and playing...whether it's golfing, attempting to mountain bike, SUP, swim, dance, etc. Whatever gets us moving and exploring, we're happy!
Due to COVID our Unified Sports has been limited, but my hopes and dreams is to get it up and running better than ever. Looking forward to getting the Unified Sports League implemented at Sequoia and continuing this awesome program at NP and WHS. Since March I have been trying very hard to think outside the box with my lessons and teaching virtually. This has not been easy, but I am trying to plan and implement exciting lessons that keep our students moving and developing.
